Words of wisdom

We won’t end oppression by pretending it isn’t there or that we don’t have to deal with it. Some may complain that working for change is “divisive” by drawing attention to oppressive systems of privilege. But when members of dominant groups “mark” differences by excluding or discriminating against subordinate groups and treating them as “other,” they aren’t accused of being divisive. Usually it’s only when someone calls attention to how differences are used as a basis for privilege that the charge of divisiveness comes up."
