Wicked Defying Gravity

Another personal anthem.

Gaughan Love Song

My anthem in some ways.

Lyrics.

ou ask me why I sing no love songs
You say the songs that I sing make you angry and sad
You say that you listen to music
To escape from the things that make you feel bad
You say that all that I sing of is trouble
And that doesn't entertain you
You say that I should be trying to make people happy
Well, strange as it seems, that's just what I'm trying to do
I could close my eyes to the suffering
I could switch off my mind and sing pretty songs
I could close my ears to the crying
I could sing, take the money and run
But that wouldn't help those in trouble
That wouldn't help make their pain disappearou ask me why I sing no love songs
You say the songs that I sing make you angry and sad
You say that you listen to music
To escape from the things that make you feel bad
You say that all that I sing of is trouble
And that doesn't entertain you
You say that I should be trying to make people happy
Well, strange as it seems, that's just what I'm trying to do
I could close my eyes to the suffering
I could switch off my mind and sing pretty songs
I could close my ears to the crying
I could sing, take the money and run
But that wouldn't help those in trouble
That wouldn't help make their pain disappear
And the homeless, the workless, the hopeless and helpless
Wouldn't be any happier, would still live in fear
So I'll keep trying to make people happy
I'll keep trying in the best way I know how
And for me to help make the most people happy
I must make you even more sad and angry now
So you see where you misunderstand me
If you listen again then you might even find
All the songs that I sing are love songs
But their love is a different kind

Words of wisdom

We won’t end oppression by pretending it isn’t there or that we don’t have to deal with it. Some may complain that working for change is “divisive” by drawing attention to oppressive systems of privilege. But when members of dominant groups “mark” differences by excluding or discriminating against subordinate groups and treating them as “other,” they aren’t accused of being divisive. Usually it’s only when someone calls attention to how differences are used as a basis for privilege that the charge of divisiveness comes up."

Epistle from Bernstein's Mass - Great Song, Relevant Always

An inspiring hopeful and troubling song from a musical of the same nature.

Peter Paul & Mary Jesus Is On The Wire

When I was 14 years old, when I was fully opposed to the LGBT community and its goal of full integration acceptance, and affirmation in society as well as completely befuddled as to how toclassify my own sexual orietation, I saw and heard this clip.
At first I was offended by the lyrics. I found them to be blasphemous. A gay person is Jesus? Outrageous!!!!!!

But then the truth of it sunk in and I first began to wonder if perhaps Gay people were being treated fairly in the world. My transformation started with this song.

I am forever in their debt.

Antonio David Garcia / Not Afraid Speech / Gay

To know that such a one as this yet walks and talks and Breathes in Michigan gives me hope for the future of Gay People in my home state. God give me the strength to speak as boldly to those who need to hear as he does.

Dick Gaughan - Revolution

Goal

I don't want to be happy, I want to be whole.
That means to be happy and sad and troubled and confused and stoic and
surprised and elated and bored and a host of other things in the right way for the right reasons.
I want to care about people. All People.
And I want all I do on life to reflect that.
'Cause that is the only way I know to be whole. The only motivation worth having. The only goal worth working toward.
